IRSP Outlines It’s Position on Forthcoming Elections

Posted in Elections, Statements on February 21, 2014 by The Plough & The Stars

The Irish Republican Socialist Party since its foundation has never been an abstentionist party. Similarly we do not see ourselves as a constitutionalist party. We do not believe that our ultimate political goals can be reached via constitutional politics. We have always said that all elections would be looked at on their merits and whether we believed taking part in certain elections would benefit in particular the party and in a wider context, the working class. This is a position first adopted by Seamus Costello when the party was formed in 1974 and we still stand by this position today.

After analysing the current political situation the Ard Comhairle and membership of the IRSP have decided not to contest the upcoming local government elections in the six counties. We have democratically taken this decision after a period of internal discussion. Standing candidates at this time would go against the wishes of our membership.

Constitutionalism has and will continue to fail the working class and our allegiance has always been to the working class and to building a fair and equal society on the island of Ireland. In fact some may believe that the IRSP have been led up the path of constitutional politics. Nothing could be further from the truth. The IRSP remains a committed revolutionary party, our ultimate goals remain and that is the establishment of an Irish 32 county Socialist Republic.

Ruling Class Politicians Target the Most Vulnerable

Posted in ATOS on February 20, 2014 by The Plough & The Stars

British imperialism’s abuses of Human Rights in Ireland continues in many ways on a daily basis, not least the abomination of the ATOS examinations.  ATOS is a private limited company (officially known as ATOS Healthcare, listed as a division of Atos IT Services UK Ltd) contracted by the British government to basically remove disability benefits via loaded tests from claimants who need that small extra amount of money to cope with living with their disabilities.

Of course, targeting the vulnerable has always been the ruling classes’ means of passing their greedy mistakes and mismanagement onto the poorest sections of society.  Remember the offensive against single mothers, spinning the nonsense that there was a mass conspiracy of single women just waiting to be impregnated so that they could boost their chances of gaining public authority rental property!

To date, deaf/blind people, the terminally ill and those suffering from serious progressive illnesses have had their benefits removed leaving them in dire positions.  It is well documented that numbers of disabled people have committed suicide after ATOS removed their benefits.  ATOS is just the latest way that the most vulnerable in society are targeted to pay for the excesses, mistakes and avarice of the ruling class.  In real terms, the average claimant targeted by ATOS receives less money in one month than the average Tory-Dem politician spends on a meal, more often than not heavily subsidised by taxpayers money.

It is the duty of all revolutionary socialists to highlight and fight against human right’s abuses, such as those being carried out on a daily basis by ATOS.  The Irish Republican Socialist Party has consistently opposed ATOS since it came into existence, defending a section of the proletariat whose voices are rarely heard.  The IRSP has been established for 40 years and unlike other one dimensional  Irish nationalist parties and on the other hand the Brit-centric Left who ignore imperialism when its on their doorstep, the Republican Socialist Movement has always followed in the Connolly tradition which correctly maintains that there can be no real freedom in a 32 county unitary Ireland without the building of a socialist state.  Likewise, the IRSM has never baulked at opposing Imperialism during the recent conflict in Ireland.  In the words of Seamus Costello, co-founder of the Irish Republican Socialist Movement, we

“owe our allegiance to the working class!”

Continue Fighting Internment!

Posted in Internment on February 16, 2014 by The Plough & The Stars

The Irish Republican Socialist Party and all freedom loving people welcomed the news that eventually Martin Corey was released from custody recently. The decision to release Mr. Corey should have been taken years ago and the subsequent delay in releasing him can only be described as callous and inhumane.  Whilst we all welcomed the release Mr. Corey, there is little doubt that the IRSP and other Republicans and true revolutionary socialists will continue to condemn modern day internment through the revocation of licenses and by remand.

This form of selective internment by remand or revocation of license been conducted without trial and is plainly modern day abuse of human rights. Interested observers will also be cognisant that this practice makes a mockery of the weasel words of the Good Friday.  It is certainly no coincidence that those people currently being pursued by the state are prominent activists who have expressed their opposition to the GFA. The British government is also channeling funds and personnel into the Historical Enquiries Team and the re-vamped ‘supergrass’ system…

Many will conclude from this that the British government is conducting a major operation against those whom they would still deem a threat to imperialism. They are also responding to those opposed to the GFA by utilizing an old method – Internment. But similarly to when used before, internment will only stoke the anger of the Irish working class.

Internment will not silence us. We will not be criminalised and we will continue to fight imperialist aggression by any means necessary.

End Internment now!

RUC/PSNI Guardians of the Ruling Class and MI5 Puppets

Posted in PSNI/RUC, Uncategorized on February 15, 2014 by The Plough & The Stars

Despite the near daily appearance on local news programmes in the north of Ireland of supposedly family-friendly, jovial PSNI ‘peelers’ (often dressed-down and grinning like apes as they woodenly interact with the latest bunch of Uncle Toms from a working-class community organisation) they are really just a more heavily armed version of the RUC. After over a decade with a new name, new uniforms and of course newer, more lethal weapons in their arsenal (including plastic bullets), the PSNI still function as an imperialist counter-insurgency agency controlled by MI5..

As to qualitative change in policing in working-class areas of the north of Ireland, the PSNI is still engaged in widespread harassment of Republicans who have not bought into the Stormont mini-parliament or who have failed to sign-up for the thoroughly pacified community workers’ ‘safe-list’ The Irish Republican Socialist Party has consistently condemned the PSNI’s blatant political policing and continued harassment of working-class communities.

Provisional Sinn Fein who currently engage with the PSNI/RUC as part of the larger normalisation mirage dispensed with any revolutionary pretensions but Republican Socialists rightly oppose any accommodation with the armed wing of the 6 county sectarian state-let. Furthermore, as revolutionary Socialists they correctly view all police forces in Ireland as armed guardians of the Capitalist system and no friends of working-class people. Even in a unitary Capitalist Ireland, the police would fulfil the same role. James Connolly, the father of Irish Republican Socialism correctly identified the continued repressive role of a police force in an Ireland which had not achieved the economic liberation of the proletariat. In Connolly’s 1899 article in the Workers Republic, entitled ‘Let Us Free Ireland‘ he wrote:

“Whoop it up for liberty! After Ireland is free, says the patriot who won’t touch socialism, we will protect all classes, and if you won’t pay your rent you will be evicted same as now. But the evicting party, under command of the sheriff, will wear green uniforms and the Harp without the Crown, and the warrant turning you out on the roadside will be stamped with the arms of the Irish Republic!”

Under any kind of critical scrutiny, thirteen years of name change for the ‘PSNI incorporating the RUC’ (the PSNI’s official title) has been as superficial as the change of paint on their armoured Land Rovers

PFLP Political Bureau: Kerry plan attempts to liquidate Palestinian cause, right of return

Posted in PFLP on February 11, 2014 by The Plough & The Stars

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) 2

A policy statement issued by the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine

At its first meeting following the conclusion of the Seventh National Conference, the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine addressed political developments on the Palestinian and Arab regional levels and the international implications of the explosive events of our time.

The Political Bureau stated that continuing the path of negotiations with the occupation, despite the failure and damage of such negotiations from Oslo to the present day, is synonymous with consolidation of the occupation. The negotiations can only result in further Palestinian concessions at the expense of Palestinian national rights. The Kerry plan only proves the futility of negotiations and the U.S. and Israeli goals in continuing this process. It indicates once again the depth of congruence between “Israel” and the United States in their vision to resolve the conflict, and once again proves the U.S.’ true face as an enemy of the Palestinian people as it pushes the Israeli demand to recognize the so-called “Jewishness of the state.”

This formal U.S. adoption of the “Jewish state” clearly implies the potential risk of the deportation of our people in Palestine ’48 to outside the boundaries of the alleged “Jewish state.” Moreover, this proposal attempts to create a political, legal and historical basis to declare that the land of Palestine is the “state of the Jews,” not the state or the nation of the Palestinian people.

The Kerry plan aims to liquidate the right of return and replace it with compensation funds and individual humanitarian “solutions,” placing Palestinian refugees at risk of displacement and resettlement, as is happening today through forced migration. The Kerry plan does not stop at this border but further discusses exchanges of territory and population to alter the geographic and demographic situation in favor of the Zionist enemy, including the city of Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine.

The Arab silence and overt support from some regimes for on the dangerous path of negotiations and the Kerry plan based on those negotiations, and their involvement in attempts to pressure Palestinians to make concessions is part and parcel of the conspiracy against the rights of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, no referendum on these matters is acceptable; there is no referendum to be had on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

The U.S. administration, “Israel” and these Arab regimes are consistent in their approach and see today that the current situation is an optimal time to promote this liquidationist project, due to the preoccupation on the Arab scene with internal matters on official and popular levels.

The PFLP considers that the leadership monopolizing the Palestine Liberation Organization has violated the decisions of the Executive Committee and the Central Council rejecting the resumption of negotiations in light of the ongoing and systematic settlement expansion, gradually swallowing the remainder of Palestinian land, isolating Palestinians and any Palestinian state from Jerusalem, its capital, and as “Israel” attempts to fully Judaize the land of Palestine.

The PFLP demands that this leadership put an end to its involvement in these absurd and harmful negotiations which threaten the Palestinian national project, and instead demand that the United Nations implement its resolutions in full on the Palestinian cause. Any mechanism sponsored or overseen by the United States is not “impartial” or a reference to resolve the conflict, rather it is a full partner with the Zionist entity in oppressing the Palestinian national movement.

In addition, the Palestinian internal division has caused weakness in the Palestinian movement and continuing this situation only serves the goals of Zionism in undermining Palestinian consensus, tampering with the unity of the people and the national will. The PFLP calls for an end to this ongoing harmful situation, by implementing all agreements among Palestinian parties that have been reached through national dialogue, including creating a timetable to end this impasse and call for new elections to the Palestinian National Council and all other bodies, to rebuild national forces to confront these projects which aim to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

The Political Bureau also reviewed the Arab situation and its repercussions on the Palestinian situation, in particular the crisis of the refugee camps in Syria and Yarmouk camp at the forefront. Yarmouk is facing destruction, sabotage, starvation and displacement, and the solution must be to neutralize the camp from violent conflict, the immediate entry of food and aid, lifting the siege, and the safe return of the people of the camp and its Palestinian and Syrian inhabitants to their homes and property, with the return of the camp to its previous status as a safe zone without weapons or militants.

The current Arab situation is exposed to serious risks of the fragmentation of the Arab people and the Arab nation, because of the inability or unwillingness of the Arab regimes to achieve democracy in their countries, combined with the interference and intervention of Western powers, the U.S. and their allies in the region, who have opened the path to impose and encourage a sectarian character upon conflicts in the region.
