IRSP PRESS RELEASE

Irish Republican Socialist Party
Costello House
392b Falls Road
Belfast
BT12 6DH

Date: 22/02/2017
=========PRESS RELEASE==========

The Irish Republican Socialist Party releases this statement to refute allegations made in the media beginning yesterday (21/02/2017) following the alleged discovery of explosives and ammunitions in the Conway Street area of the Falls Road.

This incident is not related to the Irish National Liberation Army. We state this standing firmly on the basis of the Republican Socialist Movement’s statement released in Bray in 2009 which stated the following;

“The RSM has been informed by the INLA that following a process of serious debate, consultation and analysis, it has concluded that the armed struggle is over and the objective of a 32 County Socialist Republic will be best achieved through exclusively peaceful political struggle.”

The Irish Republican Socialist Party stands by the above quote and has not been informed of any change in position from the Irish National Liberation Army.

Sinister media speculation of internal conflict within the Republican Socialist Movement is of no substance and is a dangerous but futile attempt to create the perception that we are divided.

The Republican Socialist Movement is united on a political path in pursuit of our objectives.

The Irish Republican Socialist Party is entirely satisfied that there is no conflict within the INLA. The state arms of the press and the security forces are collaborating to advance a politically motivated campaign against the Republican Socialist Movement.

This has manifested itself in Arrests, Violent House Raids, the targeting of IRSP members for harassment and character assassinations via numerous newspaper outlets. The events of the past number of days are nothing other than a continuation of this campaign.

STATEMENT ENDS

The Plough and The Stars Editorial Comment

The IRSP’s press release reproduced above in a measured, concise manner pours cold water on the recent inflamatory scaremongering ‘story’ emanating from the MI5 controlled PSNI Media Department that mainstream news sources replicated almost verbatim without the least attempt at any serious analysis.  Perhaps the only truth contained in the MI5/PSNI’s latest sponsored narrative is the admission that they have been engaged in a very specific targeted campaign of vilification and harassment of Irish Republican Socialists.  There will be little doubt that the PSNI’s campaign of harassment will continue however it would be folly to believe that it will dent the resolve of the IRSP to challenge injustice, imperialism and current attempts to marginalise the Irish working class.

PSNI on the offensive, at homes and schools

IRSP Lower Falls spokesperson Michael Kelly has said that the party has in recent days received numerous complaints from furious parents in the Clonard area, expressing concern at the decision of a local primary school to permit the PSNI/RUC to enter and ingratiate themselves with children during school hours. Despite children being allowed to handle dangerous equipment, (including riot gear), none of the parents concerned were consulted by the school.

This afternoon Kelly said ‘The IRSP understand and share the concern of these parents at the unauthorised exploitation of their children, which is frankly, offensive, unjustifiable and wrong, particularly given the wave of documented harassment operations which have been mounted against republican families in the streets around the school in recent times’. Accordingly we intend to seek a meeting with school authorities.

TARGETTED HARASSMENT OF CHILDREN BY THE PSNI

The PSNI have in recent times embarked upon a deliberate policy of stalking local school runs both in the morning and afternoon, with a view to harassing, searching, and isolating republican families from their neighbours. The homes of local children have also been stormed by heavily armed and aggressive PSNI swat teams leaving children traumatised and psychologically damaged. School authorities will be aware of these incidents as they have been well documented in the press. They should also be aware therefore that to allow the same armed thugs access to what should be a safe space for children, risks retraumatising the victims of politically motivated abuse and aggression.

SCHOOLS ARE FOR LEARNING, NOT BRITISH PROPAGANDA

The PSNI are engaged in an intense political propaganda offensive with a view to isolating the families and children of local Republican activists, this involves countering images of their armed oppression with imagery purporting to show concern for child welfare. This amounts to no less than the exploitation of local children for political ends. The IRSP opposes such despicable practices and asks the school authorities to reconsider the practice of granting such people access to children

PSNI Are Playing With Fire

RSP Lower Falls Representative Michael Kelly is claiming that British Security forces risk bringing serious conflict onto the streets, following a number of high profile armed operations against its members in the city.

Over the past weeks and months, the IRSP have noted with increasing concern sustained assaults directed by the British security forces via the PSNI against its members, supporters and activists.

Vicious and aggressive ‘stop and search’ operations against members on the roadside have been complimented by targeted and destructive house raids and arrests conducted by Balaclava-clad and heavily armed men who only this morning stormed with machine guns the family home of republican ex-prisoner and IRSP Ard Comhairle member Sean Carlin, dragging him from his bed as his frightened young children looked on.

Some weeks ago the IRSP noted with real concern the comments of Stormont first minister Arlene Foster when she insinuated that republicans not belonging to state approved political parties here were facing a ‘fork in the road’ moment. If the recent targeted harassment of IRSP members represents this fork in the road, then the party fears that the political landscape may be facing a crisis unprecedented in decades.

Michael Kelly continued by saying… “The Irish Republican Socialist Party has been in existence for over forty years, in that time we have never tolerated attacks on our membership from any quarter”. “This remains our principled position today; the British state and the PSNI are playing with fire”.

End of Statement.

What Can Irish Republican Socialism do for Ireland 2016?

The deadly combination of Imperialism and Capitalism is clear for all to see in 2016 Ireland. Ireland a proud nation that once stood up and defended its people against the biggest Imperial power in the world, a nation that supplied generation after generation whose political thinking has been world renowned amongst global revolutionaries. This nation now lies politically, economically and socially crippled and isolated.

Our nation has become one of low wages, mass unemployment and mass emigration.  The land which boasts a long history of revolution has become a land of zero hour contracts. Contracts designed to spread fear amongst the workers, to weaken trade union movements making it difficult to withdraw labour in any workers dispute. Zero hour contracts are the modern day slave shackles of the working class, shackles which send us to a lifetime of debt and pure reliance on corporate credit and landowners as the working people are in no financial position to own their own property. Ireland ranks second highest in the world in terms of percentage of the population deemed to be in a ‘low wage job’.  Our highly skilled and highly educated youth are forced to work in minimum wage jobs in call centres and Poundlands, while some fight crippling student debt which destroys any hope of a safe personal financial future.

Mass unemployment and Emigration holds a crippling burden on the Irish Working Class. Recent estimates indicate that 22% of our youth across the 32 counties are unemployed while approximately 10% of the population as a whole are unemployed. These figures would be substantially worse if it wasn’t for the ‘Safety valve’ of mass emigration. Over 200,000 young people in Ireland have emigrated in the past 5 years. Emigration leaves our communities with huge socio-economic problems in now and in the future as our potential young highly skilled workforces are exported around the world. Our working class communities left socially empty, demoralized, divided and weak.

Irish Republican Socialism has always been embodied within the Irish Working Class, our ideology has always expressed, promoted and fought for real change in Ireland, this change is needed and more importantly wanted more than ever before. In recent months recent elections in Ireland have shown a swing of support of voters in support of left wing candidates both north and south.  Even though our politics see this as a victory of sorts many of these candidates and parties cannot provide the real change in which Irish Republican Socialism can.

Irish Republican Socialists has always demanded that the Irish people have their right to National Self-Determination. While many politicians, socialist activists and parties shy away from this matter, national self determination is a pure class issue as it is a fundamental question which the Irish Working Class must face on its road to conquering power, it is a democratic demand pointing to the fullest democracy which creates the perfect conditions for the Irish Working Class struggle. Those who ignore this demand surrender this issue to the capitalist class leaving it open to their solutions.  While this belief in National Self Determination may leave the Irish Republican Socialist movement vulnerable to those who believe in the idea of ‘labour must wait’, any socialist or ‘left winger’ must take the side of those opposed to imperialism and the oppressed as the belief in National Self-determination is the purest form of democracy and democracy is the only way to unite the working class.

Irish republican Socialists have never believed that the objective of the 32 county Socialist Republic can be achieved through sole individuals or as a party. Examples both in Ireland and worldwide have proven that you cannot change a system via their own political medium to those they exploit.  Irish republican Socialists have always maintained the steadfast belief  that the working class as a unit can only achieve this true objective. Our only allegiance is to the working class and our objective as a group is to help organise and politicise the Irish Working class to achieve our 32 county workers republic.

A 32 county socialist workers republic, created by the incorruptible Irish Working class would be a nation where the needs of the people come before the needs of the financial elite.  A republic where the workers have seized the ‘levers of power’ and the means of production. The billions upon billions worth of profit created by Irish Workers which are today put into the pockets of a few individuals and exported to foreign banks  are seized and put back into the nation. The Republic would provide true working health and education systems which provides for the people. Our National resources will be under the full control of the Irish people and not exploited by multi-national foreign billion dollar companies whose only intention is to exploit and maintain its global financial monopoly at the interest of the few.

The Irish Republican Socialist ideology provides the Irish Working class the answers to its ongoing devastating problems. Our politics offer  true freedom in every sense of the word, a nation free from imperial and capitalist intervention, a nation free from exploitation and modern day slavery, a nation free from corporate greed and corruption.  The power to achieve this objective lies solely with the working class and the ongoing tireless work of those whose only allegiance is to the protection, politicisation and organisation of the Irish Working Class.

British Internment in Ireland in 2016

As the 45th anniversary of internment without trial, termed by the British State as ‘Operation Demetrius’ looms, we must remind ourselves that this tactic is still used by the British State, and enforced by their proxies in Ireland today.

The most recent and serious case is without doubt that of Derry Republican Tony Taylor, who was arrested by the PSNI in March and returned to Maghaberry Prison on the instructions of then Secretary of State Theresa Villiers.

Tony Taylor was arrested and incarcerated for the apparent crime of ‘posing a risk to the public.’ In reality, what the British Government were stating was that due to Tony Taylor’s political activism, they had him put back into a prison cell, taken away from his family and friends on no charges whatsoever.

This sinister situation cannot be dressed up in any other way. It is clear that Republican Activists can be lifted off the streets when they become too much of a headache or threat to the ficticious ‘peace process.’

With this in mind, who will be the next family to miss out on having their Father, Mother, Son, Daughter, Brother, Sister, Grandfather or Grandmother around for a considerable amount of time? All on the orders and say so of a British overlord who holds no mandate whatsoever in Ireland.

We keep hearing from the State media and the establishment Party’s at Stormont that we have moved on from the ‘dark days’, that all is rosy in the garden. Yes, that’s true for those who tow the line of the apparent great and the good.

For Republican Activists who still fight against the injustices of the British Government in Ireland, this is certainly not the case. It is open season on Republican Activists when the British ‘Secretary of State’, Mi5 and their puppets at Stormont deem it necessary.

British internment in Ireland may not be as in your face and transparent as it was in 1971, however the cases of Marian Price, Martin Corey and now Tony Taylor prove that this draconian tactic was never dropped and will never be dropped by the British State as long as those principled Republicans who expose this rotten, unchanged and unchangeable statelet remain.

The call of ‘SMASH INTERNMENT’ continues for Irish Republicans in 2016.
